Description[]

At the start of the chapter, Markus will head through Henry Ford Commemorative Park and there will be a bench. The player can check the bench on your right to read the magazines, Secrets of Androids and Climate Change-Up. Afterwards, head out of the park and cross the street until, before heading forward Markus can look at an area under construction with a constructor yelling at his androids, and a homeless lady, when the road Markus can wait for a few seconds, if he does a car will beep at him and he'll be forced to move. From here Markus can do many things such as interrupt hot dog vendor in front of you. Stand in front of the vendor's cart until he pushes you out of the way.

Next, head to your left, and you should see a busker standing in front of the fountain. Approach the busker, and press L1 to watch him play. Afterwards, turn around and walk towards the entrance to the shopping arcade. Before entering you will see a preacher to the right-hand side of the entrance. Approach the preacher and press L1 to listen to his sermon, until he yells at you.

There other interactions too, which aren't listed in the flowchart such as

  • Looking at the fountain statue.
  • Listening to a delivery android complaining about being late.
  • Hearing a couple flirt at the table.
  • Listening to a cop by his car.
  • Seeing an android waiter.
  • A person by a phone booth.
  • Various homeless people.
  • Various randomized phone conversations.

Now head into the arcade, and enter the Bellini Paints store on the left-hand side. Approach the android shopkeeper, and press the displayed buttons to complete the transaction. After this, pick up the paints, and exit the store.

After leaving the store, head back the way you came from, and towards the bus stop. Before going you can see an android dropping a bag which annoys his owner and a couple debating whether or not to buy an expensive android despite already having one at home. On the way, you will encounter a group of protesters and it's leader (Or you can avoid them by going around on the right). Approach them to trigger a cutscene in which they attack you. Once the police officer has intervened, carry on towards the bus stop and enter the bus to complete the chapter.

Trivia[]

  • The entire chapter sets up how humans view androids in a lot of ways (including blaming androids for unemployment) and humans' habit to deny any empathy to them, along with their general rudeness and hostility.
    • At the same time, this chapter shows that androids have been an enormous help in the care of the elderly and the children, with some humans treating at least their own androids better in return.
  • There are several things that Markus can do with little to no story impact:
    • Observing a fitness robot accompanying a jogger.
    • Watching a human foreman getting impatient with his android workers on a construction site.
    • Looking to a presumably homeless woman sitting out on the sidewalk with a "Ban androids" sign.
    • Hearing an android complaining about a package being delivered late.
    • Watching an android dropping a bag and getting yelled at by his owner.
    • Listening to a woman complimenting her boyfriend's shirt.
    • Looking to an android receptionist at the entrance of a store with a "No androids allowed" sign.
    • Observing a woman at a coffee table saying she has to leave, with the man she was with asking why. She answers that it's due to "him" possibly wondering where she is.
    • Watching an AP700 android at a shop window of the CyberLife store.
    • Looking at the steam coming from the fryer.
    • Looking closer to a CyberLife sign advertising "Get yours today" above the CyberLife store.
  • The busker sings a full song.
  • The preacher has several sentences.
  • When walking around the neighbourhood, you can see a trail of wet puddle footprints.
  • The CyberLife store doesn't allow Markus in despite the message displayed at the entrance is "Purchased androids not allowed inside" as he wasn't purchased.
  • The baby a woman is carrying has a fully modeled face.
  • It is possible to see leaves falling from trees at the park.
  • Markus makes way for anyone walking past him.
  • The statue behind the busker at the center of the fountain is that of Arnold Brook (1915-1998).
  • The protesters can be avoided if Markus takes a different route that does not go right past them.
  • If the preacher yells at Markus, he calls out that the android will be the one to destroy Detroit, foreshadowing one of the potential endings of Battle for Detroit.
  • The street musician has a sign next to him advertising him as a real human musician with the tagline "music with soul".
  • If Markus stands in the street for too long, a driver will honk at Markus, forcing him to move.
  • It is possible to wait for the bus without pressing "X".
  • Ben's Hotdog has a fully readable menu, which includes the dishes, the price, and sometimes a small description.
